Social Connections
The Importance of Social Connections in College
Students: Do not attempt to attend college in isolation. Many students, especially community college students, fail to build in social time when they create their schedules of back-to-back courses, running from campus to work then back home and then to class again. With little or no time to hang around after class for coffee and a visit, more students must make connections in their classrooms. Teachers: Allow time for your students to make and nurture social connections within your class session, if only for a couple of minutes a day. Providing such time/space creates a welcoming sense of community and will enhance retention and outcomes.
